Rookie Phenom Stephen Strasburg

On Tuesday, June 8th, 2010, Washington Nationals' pitcher Stephen Strasburg made his major league debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates at home. Strasburg was the number one overall draft pick in 2009. He spent the first half of the 2010 season in the minors, and he was phenomenal. He has a fastball that can clock in the triple digits. If he can stay healthy, Stephen is going to rack up many strikeouts over his career. His fastball can be compared to that of Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens. He has a nice change-up in the low 90s, and has a lethal, north-to-south curve ball that can have the batter shaking. Strasburg is going to have a bright future. The Nationals have a bright near-future. Washington can be contenders in a few years with Ryan Zimmerman, Strasburg, and the 2010 top draft pick, Bryce Harper in right field. Strasburg pitched seven strong innings, gave up a two run home run to Delwyn Young, but he had fourteen strikeouts. He is so impressive. He has all four pitches: four seam fastball, two seam fastball, change-up, and curve. He can throw any pitch at any time in the count. He is not good. He is dominant. He pounds the strike zone. He gave up zero walks, pitched ninety-four pitches and sixty-five of those were strikes. He only made one mistake with the home run, but he bounced back to get the 5 -2 win. His teammates gave him plenty of run support for Strasburg to work his magic. Zimmerman, Dunn, and Willingham homered in that game for the Nats. Strasburg is a rookie phenom. He got ahead of hitters, and his fourteen strikeouts is a Nationals record. He only allowed four hits, and Stephen had one of the most impressive major league debuts in baseball history. He is the future of this league. It may be too early to jump to conclusions, but if he pitches like he did in his debut, he will go far and perhaps make it into Cooperstown some day. Strasburg is going to remember his debut for the rest of his life. He started out his career on the right track. It also helped that he had a future hall of fame catcher in Ivan Rodriguez behind the plate. This was an important night for the nationals, but this was even a greater night for baseball. Strasburg is going to have a very successful career. He is going to face challenges and difficulties on the mound, but with the explosiveness of Stephen, he will come adversity. Stephen has the potential to become one of the best pitchers in major league history. It is electrifying and exciting to watch this young twenty-one-year-old. The Nationals had a sellout crowd for his debut, and they should expect many more of those in years to come in their recently new ballpark. Welcome to Major League Baseball Stephen Strasburg! I know nobody is perfect, but with his powerful repertoire, he has the ability to pitch a no-hitter or even a perfect game. He loves to play baseball. He has the right attitude and mindset that is required to be successful. He will be tested, but Strasburg will be a leader some day and overcome many trials. He is going to see All-Star games and many more fans. His rookie card is going to be a top seller. It is going to be fun watching him pitch for a very long time.
